Rectification

Sometimes incorrect data is held about individuals and when this happens it is important that data subjects (i.e. church members) have the ability to have the information corrected. This forms part of GDPR and is called the Right to Rectification.

It should be clear whom data subjects should contact if any data is wrong; this should be in your church privacy policy.

It is important that when someone has informed you of incorrect information, that it is updated within one month. If it is particularly complex then you will be allowed up to two months, however this is an exception.

If the data has been shared with anyone else then these parties need to be informed, e.g. if you have shared Gift Aid information with HMRC.

More information about the Right to Rectification can be found here.
